Paul B. Smith

What are you doing now?
I am a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley in Medford, Oregon where my team works with individuals, families, and institutions to provide holistic wealth management.

How has the Fellowship impacted your career?
My experience with the Fellowship over 45 years ago gave me a greater understanding and appreciation for the role of the executive branch of our Federal government.  I was also an intern for my congressman, Ralph Regula, in Washington in 1979 which gave me more exposure to the roles each branch of government plays in our democracy.  My Fellowship experience provided a time of critical exploration that has helped shape the rest of my professional career.

What is your favorite memory of the Fellowship?
My favorite memory from my time as a Fellow for the Center for the Study of the Presidency was the opportunity to engage with scholars in the area of Presidential history and policy and at the same time engage with members of the Executive Branch at the annual symposium.  The 1980 symposium is still one of the richest experiences of my time in college, in particular getting to meet and hear from a much younger, Judy Woodruff, who I have enjoyed hearing from all my adult life!

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
I am very blessed to say that I have the best job in the world!  It has allowed me to make a real difference in the lives of people that I am privileged to come in contact with and have as clients.
