What are you doing now?

I'm currently a Senior National Security Executive in the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC). I've worked in the IC for almost 18 years as part of the generation of officers that joined up after 9-11. In my role as both a technical expert and manager, I've focused on analytic, targeting, and commercial engagement and I've had the honor to serve alongside some of the best officers in the world in multiple warzones and overseas locations.

How has the Fellowship impacted your career?

I was a CSPC Fellow in 2000 and then a "Fellows Counselor" in 2001. While studying Political Science at Boston College, the Fellowship offered me the chance to come to Washington and interact with policy makers and experts in a way that I never would have been able to otherwise. Presenting my paper before an audience like that and taking questions was a first for me and gave me a bit of insight into what I would do many times throughout my career.

I will also note that at the time of my Fellowship in 2000, my mother had recently passed away. As a leader at the Federal Executive Institute and a life-long history and political science student, she had been very involved with The Center for the Study of the Presidency for years - and everyone at CSPC rallied around and supported me in a way that had an incredible, life-long impact on me.

What is your favorite memory of the Fellowship?

My favorite memory was the paper presentation and panel discussion during the Forum. At the time it was incredibly stressful and I probably could have done much better, but looking back it was one of the defining moments for me and I learned a great deal about myself and where I wanted to go in my career.

I also enjoyed being with Fellows from all over the country with amazing backgrounds, stories and experiences. The dinners and events were wonderful and I definitely had the chance to spend time with some serious future leaders!

If you could have any job in the world, what would you do?

I would run a money-losing bicycle repair shop. Otherwise, I've got the best job!
