Jeffrey Thomas

Senior Fellow
Director, America and the Muslim World Initiative

Jeffrey Thomas directs the Center’s America and the Muslim World initiative.  In this role, he oversees the Center’s efforts to strengthen U.S. engagement with the Muslim world, with an emphasis on expanding people-to-people interaction and collaboration, especially through digital media technologies.  He also leads CSPC’s work to formulate innovative approaches to countering violent extremism and radicalization, while securing the rights of American Muslims and reinforcing America’s commitment to religious liberty and tolerance.

Previously, Jeff was Research Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in the Islam Program and the Russian/Eurasian Program. Before his work at CSIS, he contracted with the U.S. Agency for International Development and served as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Wyche Fowler (D-GA).
Jeff is a contributing author to Islam in Russia: The Politics of Identity and Security, 2004, and Strengthening U.S.-Muslim Communications, 2003.
Jeff received his B.A. in International Relations and his M.A. in International Development from the School of International Service at American University. He completed language training at St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University in St. Petersburg, Russia.
