Dan Mahaffee joined the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress in May 2009.He works with Center President David Abshire on projects concerning the NATO alliance and its role in the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as U.S. relations with China. In addition, Dan assists efforts regarding the U.S.-Syria relationship, building on his participation as a Presidential Fellow on the CSPC co-organized delegation visit to Damascus in April 2009, which discussed areas of cooperation in scientific research, health care, and higher education.
Dan graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Government with an emphasis on international relations and security studies, with minors in Mandarin Chinese and History. Dan studied at the East China Normal University in Shanghai, China, for one semester, where he conducted advanced language studies and research on U.S.-China-Taiwan relations. As a 2008-2009 CSPC Presidential Fellow, he examined and compared the ratification efforts of the Versailles and North Atlantic Treaties. Dan previously served as an intern for Representative Mark Kirk (IL-10).
