Jonathan Murphy

Director of Communications

Jonathan Murphy is the Director of Communications at the Center.  In this capacity, he is responsible for the organization's strategic and external communications, overall messaging, and daily press operation.  Prior to joining the Center, Jonathan served as a Senior Account Executive on the Public Affairs team in Hill & Knowlton’s Washington, D.C. office where he assisted clients with media relations, strategic positioning, crisis communications, and volunteer recruitment and retention in the energy, manufacturing, health and corporate sectors.

Prior to joining Hill & Knowlton, Jonathan served as deputy press secretary to five-term U.S. Senator John Warner, providing counsel and strategic policy guidance on a wide range of issues, including defense, energy, transportation and environmental issues. He also served as the deputy press secretary for the Senate Committee on Armed Services, the second largest committee in the U.S. Senate, working with both the majority and minority committee staffs.

Prior to joining Senator Warner’s staff, Jonathan worked for Congressman Spencer Bachus from Alabama, and served as the Volunteer Coordinator for a Congressional candidate in New York, coordinating the task force for voter outreach efforts, giving speeches to encourage voter turnout and answered voter correspondence and inquires.

A native of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in History from Hamilton College.
