Dr. Peter Mandaville is Associate Professor of Government & Islamic Studies and Founding Director of the Center for Global Studies at George Mason University, with past affiliations at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the School of International Service at American University in Washington, DC. He is the author of two books, Global Political Islam (2007) and Transnational Muslim Politics: Reimagining the Umma (2001) and has co-edited four volumes of essays in the fields of international relations and Islamic studies, in addition to testifying before Congress on political Islam and consulting widely for the media and various government agencies. He has directed research projects for the National Bureau for Asian Research and conducted research with the support of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trusts. He is currently a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life in Washington, DC, where he is heading a project on Islam in Europe.
