On March 12, 2014 at the 47th Annual Awards Dinner, CSPC had the pleasure to honor Senators Susan Collins and Joe Manchin with its Publius Award for their tireless service to their states and country. At the dinner, CSPC also recognized the 75 Presidential and International Fellows in the 2013-2014 program. These students represent over 70 colleges and universities in the United States, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and Japan. Additionally, three fellows received awards for their outstanding papers: Shereke Banton (Georgia Tech) received the James R. Moffet Award for the Most Original Paper on the Modern Presidency; Brandon Bub (Southern Methodist University) received the Most Original Historical Analysis; and Lauren Fishelman (University of Southern California) won the Robert A. Kilmarx Award for the Best Military, Intelligency, or National Security Strategic Analysis.
Attended by 200 distinguished guests and supporters of CSPC at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C, the Awards Dinner was an evening to remember. Some of the attendees for the dinner included Ambassadors from the State of Qatar, Sweden, Austria, Iceland, Canada, Spain, and the Counsellor for Politics and Public Affairs at the British Embassy. The Awards Dinner also included moderated discussion with Senators Collins and Manchin, in which they reflected on their career paths, current challenges in Congress and public service. This was followed by a special message read aloud from President Barack Obama extending his congratuatlions to the Senators and our Presidential Fellows, and a video, generously sponsored by Robert Day, paying tribute to the leadership of Senators Collins and Manchin, which has been defined by a willingness to cross party lines and to compromise in the interest of the country.
