To bridge the gap in global understanding, the Center, in partnership with Meridian International Center, is leading efforts to create a grant-making Foundation for International Understanding (FIU). Access the FIU Business Plan here:FIU Business Plan.
The FIU will support the use of media productions and digital technologies to promote mutual understanding, interactive learning, and peer-to-peer collaboration across national and cultural boundaries. As part of this mission, the FIU will facilitate joint problem-solving to advance critical social goals, such as:
- Public health
- Learning in science and technology
- Sustainable development
- Interfaith dialogue
- Ethics and good governance
The FIU will award grants to marshal the talent of media providers, content developers, and social entrepreneurs worldwide. It will have a special focus on reaching youth to correct stereotypes and misperceptions before they become fixed beliefs. To maximize its reach and impact, the FIU will support the full range of media tools, including:
- Web-based social networking
- Virtual worlds and virtual classrooms
- Cell phones and mobile media
- Educational video games
- Television and radio programming
A Public-Private Partnership
The FIU will use public and private funding to marshal the talent of media providers, content developers, and social entrepreneurs around the world.
The FIU will also serve as a resource multiplier. Using matching grants and co-funding partnerships, the FIU will leverage financial participation of corporations, foundations, and other donors.
