CSPC mourns the loss of Secretary Togo D. West, JR, 1942-2018
Secretary West, a longtime Trustee at CSPC, led a life of leadership and service through respect for others and never backing down from assuring the truth was told. The Secretary led the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of the Army under President Clinton, and he will be remembered for the efforts he made to ensure that the culture within our country’s armed forces and veterans’ services was one of honesty and respect for one’s fellow soldier, sailor, marine, and airman.
Secretary West’s devotion to finding non-partisan solutions to some of our country’s biggest challenges will not soon be forgotten. His pragmatic approach and dedication to the education of our country’s future leaders, both public and private, will continue to come to fruition as time goes on.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
A full obituary detailing his amazing life and career may be found in The Washington Post.
The Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress is a non-partisan think tank that addresses the key challenges facing our nation through studying the lessons of history, convening decision-makers, and educating the next generation of leaders.
